Friday Night Museums
SESP traditionally has a Saturday Night Event as a way of topping off the conference
experience. This year we have decided to have Friday Night Event since that
works better for our “Museum Crawl”. Fort Worth is home to one of the best museum
districts in the world. To showcase these architectural masterpieces and their
superb collections, we have organized a casual evening of museum visitation.
Buses will take the conference participants from the hotel at the end of the Friday
program on a brief 10-minute trip to the museum district. There will be a reception
and buffet at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Prior coming to the Amon Carter,
you can stop by the Modern Art Museum
and the Kimbell Art Museum. These are open till
8pm on Friday evening. There is a $6 admission charge for the Modern. The museums are
situated contiguously, within easy walking distance of one another.
The Amon Carter Museum was designed by Philip Johnson and has one of the finest
collections of American Art. There will be a special showing of photographers’
archives and of a recent photographic survey of the Lewis and Clark Trail.
The Kimbell, designed by Louis Kahn, is known as “America’s best small museum” and
houses a broad and distinguished collection. The new Modern was designed by Tadao
Ando and is the second largest modern museum in the U.S. It will have a special showing
of the collection of works by Motherwell.
